Up Team Pictures Winners - DCRA Governor Generals Local Color Vanessa and Alan

During this August the USA Rifle Team - Canada participated in the Dominion of Canada Rifle Association (DCRA) National Championships at Connaught Ranges in Ottawa, Ontario.  It is sufficient to say the Canadians knew we were there.  Both the Grand Aggregate and the Governor General's were won by USA Team Members, or as the Canadians would say:  "by the Americans!"

For those of you who have not yet competed in the DCRA Matches, let me describe it the way my good friend John Hoham did when he returned in 2000:  "If you live a good life, and are a good shooter, when you die, you'll go to Canada."  After having experienced the hospitality of the DCRA I agree with John.

What makes the experience so positive?  Let's see:  1) Paid pullers; 2) Inexpensive accommodations; 3) Relays that begin and end on schedule; 4) relaxed atmosphere; 5) Inexpensive, but desirable meals.  There are probably more reasons, but those would be at the top of almost everyone's list.

As an example of shooting at Connaught let me mention the rainy day where my cased rifle slipped off my shoulder, and landed on the front sight.  On examination it looked okay, but the next morning I had a six minute windage change, due to the ladder rotating on the barrel.  After struggling for two matches, I found a level and readjusted the front sight.  At our Nationals, if I were lucky I could use the sighting in range (how much do you trust that short range target).  In Connaught, I purchased a $2.00 Canadian!  (thats about $1.30 U.S.) practice pass, and presented myself to the Range Officer on Butt #4 at 600 yards (my next match).  I was squadded on the next relay and allowed ten (10) rounds to sight-in my rifle.

The matches are all slow-fire prone at ranges of 300 Meters, 500 yards, 600 yards, 800 Meters, 900 Meters, and one team match at 300 yards.  You shoot at least forty record rounds per day, all with two shooters on the line simultaneously firing alternately.  Still, you have plenty of time to relax and visit between relays.

I could go on and on, but it best experienced first hand.   Please take a moment and review the pictures of the U.S.A. Rifle Team - Canada, and the American Winners!
