Thomas J. Whitaker - Head Coach 

“Tom”, a dentist, earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree from the University of Southern California.  He began shooting in 1959 at the age of 12, competing in Smallbore and UIT style shooting during the 1960’s and 1970’s, switching to High- power/Fullbore in 1980. He was the 1968 World C.I.S.M. Rifle Champion and a member of the 1979 Pan American Games Gold Medal U.S.A. 3-position Rifle Team. Tom has won U.S. National titles in Smallbore, High Power, and International Style rifle shooting. He was the first of only two shooters to achieve a perfect of 6400x6400 in U.S. Smallbore Prone competition. Tom was a firing member of the 1995 U.S. Palma Team and Vice Captain/Coach for the 1999 U.S. Team. He has a Canadian Silver Medal and a Canadian Gold Cross to his credit. He holds the U.S. National Record for the Palma Course with a score of 450-35X. He uses either a Stolle Panda or a RPA Quadlok, both with Krieger barrels, in competition.

Mid Tompkins – Coach

Mid lives in Prescott, Arizona with his wife and two daughters.  He has been shooting competitively for 53 years.  This summer at the USA National High Power Championships will make his 50th consecutive year at Camp Perry.  He is proud to have been on 17 Palma Teams.  Mid’s major shooting accomplishments include Six-Time National High Power Champion; National Junior and Senior Championships; plus numerous other National and International awards.  He enjoys golf, reading and shooting!

Nancy Tompkins-Gallagher – Coach

Nancy lives in Prescott, Arizona with her husband, Mid and two daughters, Michelle and Sherri (USA Young Eagles Under 21/25 Team).   This is her fifth Palma Team and her fifth time competing at Bisley.  She became the first woman to ever win the USA High Power National Championship and has won the USA National Long Range Championships three times.  Nancy has been the USA National Highpower Woman’s Champion 13 times, plus Collegiate and Junior Champion.  Her favorite thing about competition is spending time with her friends and family.  She especially loves team matches and international competition.

Robert Jones – Coach

A professional auto maintenance technician, “Bob” also operates an optical diopter shooting supply business for iron sight enhancement.  Bob, 56, grew up in Mexico, Missouri and now resides in Phoenix, Arizona.  He shoots both Highpower rifle and Smallbore prone.  He was a coach on three prior USA Palma Teams.  Bob shoots a Paramount action with a Krieger barrel.

William E. Meek – Coach

A lab technician at the Arizona Cancer Center, “Billy”, 49, resides in Sahuarita, Arizona.  He has been a Palma Team member since 1972, except in 1992, as either a shooter or a coach.  As a Smallbore shooter, he competed in the 1997 World Cup, Seoul, 1996 Olympics, Atlanta, and other recent World Cup events.  For Palma, he shoots a Remington or an RPAS Quadlock.  Billy also enjoys backpacking and USAC Open Wheel racing.

Gary E. Rasmussen – Coach

A rangemaster for Whatcom County Parks and Recreation Department, Bellingham, Washington, Gary, 51, won the USA Palma Individual Trophy Match twice at Camp Perry, Ohio, in 1982 and 2001.  He has been shooting at Camp Perry since 1975 where he has won over 10 trophy matches. Gary qualified for four previous Palma Teams.  This year he was selected as a coach for the 2003 Palma Team.
